Der Nutzen von Zemanta besteht darin, automatisch Links, Bilder, Tags und Artikel bereits beim Schreiben eines Blogbeitrages in Wordpress, Typepad oder Blogger passend zum Inhalt des Textes zur Verfügung gestellt zu bekommen.

Dazu vergleicht Zemanta die Wörter über eine Wortanalyse und semantische Algorithmen mit einer Datenbank vorindizierter Inhalte anderer Quellen und blendet die Ergebnisse direkt neben dem Editor ein.

Leider ist der Dienst bisher nur auf die englische Sprache zugeschnitten, so dass er hier in diesem Testbeitrag nur auf allgemein bekannte Schlagworte reagiert. Außerdem ist er bisher nur in Form einer Browsererweiterung für Firefox verfügar.

Der Social News Aggregator FriendFeed trägt mit der Veröffentlichung seiner API weiter zum aktuellen Hype um ihn bei, den die Technologie-Gurus in den letzten Wochen losgetreten haben.

Damit ist es nun beispielsweise möglich den Dienst zu nutzen ohne sich auf der eigentlichen FriendFeed Seite anmelden zu müssen, indem man einen Desktop Client installiert. Bei Twitter trug dieser Ansatz ganz wesentlich zum Erfolg bei. 80% der Nachrichten werden dort bereits über die API versendet und es gibt unzählige Clients für alle Plattformen. Kein Wunder also, dass dieses Feature auf dem ersten Platz der Wunschliste der FriendFeed Benutzer stand.

Zu Beginn bietet FriendFeed PHP- und Python-Bibliotheken an und verpricht die Schnittstelle in den nächsten Monaten zusammen mit den Nutzern zu erweitern. Angekündigt ist als nächstes eine Unterstützung des Authentifizierungsprotokolls oAuth für APIs.

Die Veröffentlichung der API verspricht auf jeden Fall spannende Anwendungen. Jetzt mal abwarten wie lange es dauert bis der erste Adobe AIR Client erscheint.
